Listening Sessions: New 3D Sound
8 pm
This listening session is a public showcase of newly developed works by a group of selected mid-career sound artists from across Yorkshire, the Midlands, and the North who have taken part in our mentoring programme exploring the creation of immersive 3D sound.
An opportunity to hear fresh, unreleased material and experience a wide range of sonic experimentation through our 16-channel Ambisonics sound system. Expect a diverse mix of sound art, including experimental, electronic, folk, and noise-based practices—an open space to listen, exchange ideas, and explore the system’s full potential.
It is also a chance to meet new artists, connect with the team, and engage with musicians and industry professionals from Leeds and across the region.
Live sound performance
Dushume & Dhangsha (South Asian artist collective)
9:30 pm
Immerse yourself in an electrifying live set from Dushume and Dhangsha, blending South Asian–inspired experimental noise with heavy bass and improvisation. Using DIY instruments, distorted textures and evolving rhythms, they create dark, visceral soundscapes shaped by cultural memory and underground music traditions. Presented on a bespoke sound system, this is a deeply physical listening experience at the edge of bass and experimental sound.
About Dushume & Dhangsha
Dushume
Dr Amit Dinesh Patel, aka Dushume, is an experimental noise and sound artist, influenced by Asian underground music and DJ culture. His work focuses on performing and improvising with purpose-built do-it-yourself instruments, and on recording these instruments, incorporating looping, remixing, and re-editing techniques. Lack and loss of control are central to his work. He has a PhD in Music, “Studio Bench: the DIY nomad and Noise Selector” (2019), from the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. He is a Senior Lecturer in Music and Sound and an active member of the Sound/Image Research Centre at the University of Greenwich, London
Dhangsha
Aniruddha Das is an electronic musician working at the intersection of bass culture and experimental noise. Under the moniker Dhangsha (Bengali for ‘destruction’), and drawing on principles of minimalism, repetition and fragmentation, he repurposes elements of dance music to create turbulent, politically charged soundscapes that extend beyond the confines of the club.
His recent cassette Insurrection Manual, released on Brachliegen Tapes, demonstrates his propensity for bass–noise confrontation. His latest album, Broadcast Signal Intrusion, reached number 11 in The Wire’s Top 50 Albums of 2024. He has also contributed to compilations released by Syrphe, Avon Terror Corps, Tusk Editions, IKLECTIK and Industrial Coast, and appears on the double-vinyl compilation Disruptive Frequencies (Nonclassical).
Known for his visceral, improvisational live sets, Aniruddha has performed across the UK and Europe, including repeat appearances at Cave12 (Geneva) and Industrial Coast (Middlesbrough). Festival appearances include Electric Spring (Huddersfield), Supernormal (Oxfordshire) and Bone-IKLECTIK (Barcelona).
He was recently commissioned to compose a work for live broadcast on Radiophrenia (Glasgow), presented under his “non-metric noise” project, DSPSSSSD (“dispossessed”).
